Bloomington Drug

Established in 1948, Bloomington Drug was the first pharmacy in Bloomington.  In 1971, Paul Schaffer purchased the pharmacy and, along with many dedicated staff members, continues to serve the Bloomington community and surrounding areas.  Bloomington Drug has proved its ability to withstand the effects of an ever-changing world of pharmaceuticals and continues to provide its customers with unprecedented service and respect.

As well as being a retail pharmacy, Bloomington Drug has shifted much of its business toward the art of compounding.  Being Minnesota's first member of Professional Compounding Centers of America, or PCCA, Bloomington Drug is well versed in the niche market of compounding and is ready to work with physicians and patients to produce positive solutions.

Paul Schaffer, RPH

Paul is from Hastings, Minnesota and graduated from University of Minnesota Pharmacy School with a BS/Pharmacy degree. He graduated in 1966 and worked for Setzers Pharmacy for a couple of years when he purchased Bloomington Drug. He has been the owner of Bloomington Drug since 1971 and continues to enjoy his customers and his career path.

Paul has loved to watch his business evolve. He enjoys and appreciates all the customers he has had over the years. He and his wife Doris, feel very fortunate, to have had the opportunity to work with great employees. Now, Jeff, the youngest of his four sons has joined him in the pharmacy. He looks forward to the future and to the new opportunities and challenges the pharmacy will bring.

Paul Schliem, RPH

Phil is originally from Rockford, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy in 1970. He graduated with a BS/Pharmacy degree. Phil has been with Bloomington Drug for 34 years and is considered one of the family.

If you were to ask Phil his favorite aspect of working for Bloomington Drug, he would quickly respond with "the people". Both the customers and the people he works with are what makes his time at work so great.

Rachel Fox, PharmD

Rachel is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and completed a B>S> in Biology at the University of Iowa in 2003. She then went on to graduate from Creighton University School of Pharmacy in 2006 with a PharmD degree. After Rachel worked at Bloomington Drug as an intern, she knew the pharmacy would be a good fit for her.

Rachel was excited to start working at an independent pharmacy knowing that she would be given more opportunities to know her customers on a personal level. She also knew that working at Bloomington Drug would give her the chance to initiate certain programs such as Medication Therapy Management. Through this program she is able to work with customers and help them manage and understand the medications they take.

Jeffery Schaffer, PharmD

Jeff is the son of Paul Schafer, grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota and graduated from the Academy of Holy Angels High School. He then went on to South Dakota State for his undergrad and continued to Creighton University School of Pharmacy. He also graduated in 2006 with a PharmD degree.

Jeff grew up at the store. Many of the employees have known him his whole life. He started out at the store taking out the trash at a very young age and now has finally moved into working as a full time pharmacist. Jeff loves the loyalty of the customers and the great service the staff provides (and of course working for his father).
